Be brave to make mistakes, learn from the mistakes

This week, we continued our journey with pastel colours painting, focusing on a different bird photo as our reference. I chose a green drawing paper provided by our instructor and painted an orange-red AI bird to create a striking contrast.
A Humorous Reflection
While working on the piece, I felt the bird’s feathers could have a more natural look, as they currently appear a bit too neatly arranged. My cousin, who’s learning to paint alongside me, joked that the bird looks like it just left the barber with a fresh hairstyle. I immediately thought of my sister, who had just come back home from the hair salon. 😆
A New Approach to Learning
In the past, instructors often demonstrated the steps and color themes of an object, which led to paintings that looked identical and lacked individual character. However, my current instructor takes a different approach. She encourages us to start with our own understanding of the method or concept and steps in to guide or correct us when necessary. I love this method because it fosters independence and creativity—no spoon-fed solutions or direct answers.
A Lesson in Growth
Today was another valuable lesson, and I’m looking forward to the next with confidence. As we navigate our creative paths, remember: “Mistakes are just part of the journey—each one helps you discover your own unique artistic style.”
